We had a great first day in sunny California. We were meeting my college roommate Carrie, her husband Ben, and their adorable three year old Julia at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art at noon, which gave us time to go to the La Brae Tar Pits. Naturally forming tar pits were the final resting places of thousands of mammals that were trapped in the sticky tar. We were able to see some of the tar pits as well as the fossils of many of the mammals that were trapped. The most astonishing to me were the giant ground sloths. I didn't realize that the sloth sculptures in the park were actual size. A pretty amazing place.
We met Carrie, Ben, Julia and their lovely dog Nana and then went in LACMA to see Metropolis II. Alistair has been watching videos of Metropolis II since he was Evelyn's age. It is mesmerizing to watch all the little cars and the trains traveling around the stylized city.

After the museum, we headed to Carrie and Ben's house where the kids played with Julia's toys and went on an Easter Egg hunt.
It was so great to see Carrie again (and Ben of course) and to meet little Julia.
