We had a great day out at Bolton Castle. Malcolm, Lucy and Vivienne met us there. We had lunch in an old hall, and then explored the castle. We had a archery demonstration, where we learned about the history of archery and the different types of arrows. We also had a chance to shoot a bow and arrow. Later, while exploring the castle, Alistair dressed up and posed with a bow.
Part of the castle is in ruins and part of it remains intact. This is the lord's bedchamber.
Callum (who did the archery demonstration) is a falconer, and he showed us a large owl and this buzzard. It was amazing to watch the birds fly from perch to perch (often flying overhead or right near us) with the castle in the background.
The biggest hit with the kids was the maze. They ran through it about ten times.
This is one of my favorite pictures from the trip. It is so great to see the cousins together.
