We can't believe that Alistair is in kindergarten. Today was his first day. We went to school to drop him off. It was a bit chaotic with all the kids there playing. Most of the kindergarteners looked a bit lost and confused. We saw his teacher, Ms Dulac, and her assistant teacher, Ms Mellen. Ms Mellen put Alistair's new dinosaur backpack on the marked line for his class. Alistair stood close by to Colin. At 8am the bell rang. All the 1st - 4th graders immediately started to run to their lines. Alistair started to run too, but after a few seconds realized that he had no idea where he was running too. He looked at us with a bit of panic in his eyes. We brought him over to his line and helped him put on his backpack. I tried not to worry about him, or the kid at the front of the line with the skeleton hoodie and flame backpack.
Alistair really wanted to take the school bus home. I think I was most worried about the bus ride. He did great though. He couldn't get his seat belt off, but a second grader helped him. When I asked him how school was, he said "Great." He told me about the playground and that he saw Logan there. He couldn't remember who he ate lunch with. He borrowed a book from the library (All in Just One Cookie by Susan Goodman). A firefighter came today to talk about fire safety too. A busy day.
To celebrate, we went with Grandpa (but not Colin who is in Washington DC) out to dinner at Yama's in Hanover. We let Alistair choose where he wanted to celebrate.
